The propagation of Frangipani over cuttings has several advantages. On the one hand, growth is much faster. The plant often blooms in the first year. Plumeria grown from seed does not start to bloom until after three to five years.
In addition, the use of cuttings ensures that you get unmixed offshoots of your frangipani. In sown plants, it is a game of chance, in which colors of frangipani flowers later.
Cutting cuttings
Cut the cuttings preferably in spring. Then the growth phase begins and the rooting succeeds faster. In addition, there is enough light and warmth in the summer so that the young plants can develop well.
The shoots that you cut as cuttings must be woody and about 25 cm long. Incidentally, the mother plant branches at the interfaces and thus becomes more compact. Use a previously cleaned knife. The cut should be done as straight as possible. This will prevent the cut edges from fraying, thus allowing germs to enter.
Before you bring the cuttings to the roots, allow the interfaces to dry for several days. This will prevent the sap from leaking later.
Rooted in a glass of water or a pot
The water glass should be filled with water about five cm high. Change the water every two days to prevent rot. Place the glass in a bright and warm location. But avoid direct sunlight.
You can also try to put the cutting straight into prepared pots. But then you have to provide enough moisture.
Plant out after rooting
It often takes only two to three weeks for the frangipani cuttings to have roots that are several inches long. Now you can repot them into prepared pots.
Tips
Cuttings of yellow and white varieties of Frangipani roots are usually better than those of red plumeria.
