As a rule, the seeds ripen properly in the spring after they have spent the wintertime on the ground. Your good germination ability becomes clear when you leave the thimble to yourself. Every year new plants appear, as the seeds like to sow themselves.
The seeds do not necessarily have to be exposed to a cold stimulus (stratify). They germinate best at temperatures between 15 and 18 ° C. But beware: you need light to germinate!
When and how are the seeds sown?
The seeds are best sown in the spring at home (alternatively in the cold frame with cover) or in the summer. Suitable are among other pots and bowls. As a surprise to unwise gardeners, the seeds like to spread about self-sowing.
Superficially you should spread the seeds (not deeper than 3 mm below the ground). For the even distribution of the seeds a sand mixture is recommended. Squeeze the seeds and provide them with plenty of water.
If you sow the seeds into the bed in the summer, be sure to water several times a day - as long as there is no rain -. Otherwise, the seeds dry out quickly and do not germinate. A garden hose with a fine gland should be used for casting, so that the seeds are not pushed too far into the soil by the water jet. Also suitable are sprinklers.
