Due to their dense foliage and rapid growth, beans are very good as a screen

Plant and use fire beans as a screen

Ratzfatz does it and the fire bean has grown again by 1 m. Her instincts seem to know no end. Use the favor of the hour and use the Feuerbohne as a screen at the gazebo, on the balcony or in front of the terrace!

Runner beans - true giants with dense foliage

Runner beans are virtually predestined for privacy! They can rise up to 7 m and loop around the object offered to them. Their foliage is dense and thus keeps unwanted glances from neighbors and co.

Growth height after weeks

2 weeks after sowing (you can already prefer them from the end of March), beans can already be 30 cm tall. After 5 weeks, the plants often already tower 2 meters high! Alone with this height they act as privacy screens.

Climbing aid is absolutely necessary

In order to really shoot up, fire beans need objects to hold on to. Their shoots wind around it and thus climb to dizzying heights. If the runner beans do not have a climbing object at their disposal, they will grow along the ground.

Suitable climbing objects for fire beans

Already when planting you should provide your fire beans with a climbing aid, so as not to injure the plants later. Which climbing aids are suitable?

For bucket, which are for example on the balcony or the terrace, you can use a Ranksäule from the hardware store or garden center. It is ideal if the column becomes narrower towards the top. It is anchored deep in the bucket.

How big should the planting distance be?

To get proper privacy, do not plant the plants too far apart in the soil. A minimum distance of 20 cm is necessary. It should not be more than 40 cm. The screen will be even more effective if you sow 3 to 5 beans per plant hole!

Tips

You just want to use the beans as a blooming screen and not as an edible crop? Then you should regularly clean out the old flowers!
