Butterwort over leaf cuttings or seeds multiply
Fettkraut is a carnivorous plant that can easily be self-propagated. The propagation takes place via leaf cuttings or the sowing of seeds. What you have to consider if you want to multiply the easy-care pinguicula yourself.
To multiply butterwort from cuttings
The easiest way to increase fat weed over cuttings. The best time for reproduction is late summer.
Use a sharp, clean knife to cut the cuttings for a smooth cut. On the sheet must necessarily remain a piece of stalk.
The stem of the leaf cuttings is inserted so deep into the potting soil, that only the leaf looks out. Keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging. Make the cutting warm and bright.
Multiply butterwort from seed
Seeds for fatty herbs are available from well-stocked specialist retailers. You can also try to gain seeds yourself. If you pull pinguicula in the house, you have to take over fertilization yourself with a brush.
From the withered flowers form the typical seed bags. The black seed will fall out as soon as it is ripe. To catch it, you can wrap the flower in a bag.
Let the seed dry well so you can sow it the following year.
How to sow greasy weed
The best time for sowing buttercup is spring. First, prepare seed tanks containing carnivorous soil or a mixture of white peat, quartz, sand and some loam.
Do not sprinkle the seed too close to the surface and lightly press it. Pinguicula belongs to the light germinators and must not be covered with substrate.
Place the pots in a partially shaded but bright place. Keep the surface moist, avoid waterlogging. After emergence, pique the young plants.
Tips
There are some native butterwort species in Germany. All of them are threatened with extinction due to changing environmental conditions and are protected. Therefore never remove seeds or plants from pinguicula from the wild.
