The fig feels very well on sunny balconies
The fig tree with its beautifully shaped leaves gives the balcony a Mediterranean ambience. She feels very well outdoors during the warm summer months and rewards good care with numerous, tasty fruits.
Figs love sunny places
Ideal are wind-protected southern locations, which are illuminated all day by the sun. Partial shade tolerates the fig. In breezy and cool locations, figs thrive poorly and do not produce any fruit.
When should the fig on the balcony?
As soon as no more ground frost is expected, the fig tree in the bucket may move to the balcony. Gradually accustom the plant to the changed conditions and do not immediately expose the fig to full sunlight. From the sheltered room placed directly in the blazing sun, the plant could be permanently damaged.
Water sufficiently but avoid waterlogging
Since figs are very sensitive to excess water, a balance between moisture and dryness should be maintained:

Figs cultivated in the bucket should be repotted into a larger planter every two years. If the root ball is not yet visible through roots, it is sufficient to shake off the old soil and place the fig with a new substrate in the previous vessel.
Wintering of the fig tree
In very sheltered locations, you can overwinter the fig on the balcony. Be sure to place the tree in a sheltered corner and provide adequate protection against the cold.
It is better to spend the fig in a cool room during the winter months. Since the fig loses its foliage in the winter months, a darkened basement room or the garage is also suitable as a winter home.
Even in the conservatory, the fig feels comfortable during the cold season. Keep in mind, however, that the deciduous plant is not a green plant decoration for the conservatory at this time.
