Is the fern under nature protection?
Most likely, you have met a fern in the forest. Some plant friends fall in love with these delicate-looking plants and want to plant them in their own garden. But may such a fern be simply dug out of the forest?
Protected ferns
There are a number of fern species that are protected in Germany. These include especially many types of ferns and ferns. Here are the specimens that are considered protected:
In addition to these ferns, which are rarely found in our latitudes, it is the king Fern and Hartzungenfarn, which are also considered protected. They can be found more frequently, prefer to grow in sparse forests. Of all the species mentioned, you must not dig up roots and take them home, for example.
Strictly protected ferns
Furthermore, there are fern species that are on the Red List of Endangered Plants of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. These are considered strictly protected and they must not be collected or damaged by any part of the plant:
Recognize a fern
It is not difficult to spot ferns, however, to determine them exactly by species. All ferns belong to the vascular spore plants. They are divided into roots, stems and leaves. There are deciduous, wintergreen and evergreen species, although the evergreen species in this country are not hardy.
Most ferns have feathered fronds. They unroll in the shoot in a snail-like shape. On its underside are the spores, which mature in the summer and serve the propagation. Flowers, fruits or seeds do not form ferns.
Tips & Tricks
As a layman, it is difficult to differentiate or determine different types of ferns in the wild. Therefore, you should rather refrain from picking or digging ferns. Otherwise, you have to reckon with bad luck with a heavy fine.
