Are raw peas toxic?
Peas are indeed among the legumes; however, they have a special status within the plant family. Unlike beans, pea varieties do not contain phasin. This substance causes severe poisoning after eating raw legumes. Phasin dissolves in boiling water.
As a result, you are welcome to snack on freshly harvested peas. Sugar peas can even be eaten together with the pod. The pods of pal and peas are of course not suitable for consumption. The parchment layer on the inside makes the pods inedible, although it is non-toxic.
