Cut back angel trumpets - when, how much and how often?
Angel trumpets are among the more nurturing ornamental plants - above all, they occupy the hobby gardener by their large water and fertilizer needs. Cutting back, on the other hand, is not that important, but there are some rules.
How much pruning do angel trumpets need?
If one compares the need for pruning with that of water and nutrients, one can almost lean back as an angel trumpet owner. For the angel trumpet is in terms of growth a comparatively easy-care protégé. It does not grow excessively fast and, especially during the main vegetative phase over the summer, forms a well branched branch by itself. During the warm months, when you have the angel trumpet outside, you usually do not have to cut it back.
In addition, the angel's trumpet is even more grateful for relatively little editing - the less you miss it, the more it will thank you with a lush flowering.

When a pruning is needed
However, you should not leave your angel trumpet to yourself. Above all, when it comes to wintering, you should nevertheless moderate to the shears. When this makes sense hardly different from other plants in need of winter - usually it is advisable to abbreviate the plant once before rinsing and once before Auswintern at certain points.
Before wintering
Before you bring the angel's trumpet to the winter quarters in autumn, you can cut it back a little - but more so because it takes less space indoors. Also trim only the shoots that fork in the upper Blühregion with the smaller, asymmetrical leaves. It should always leave a leafy shoot per branching - so you get all the flowering shoots and can still save space.
You should not expect more reduction with regard to the next growing season. Take the autumn cut as early as possible, if it is still mild, and then do not immediately put the angel's trumpet in the winter quarters. This promotes a good healing of the cut surfaces.
Before the winnowing
When is a second cut control worthwhile, is the time before the Auswintern. Depending on which circumstances prevailed in winter quarters, the angel trumpet may have formed some impulses prematurely, which, however, because of the lack of light rather meager and un-or hardly leafy present. These should be shortened before removing them so that one or two leaves remain.
Radical pruning only in extreme cases
Very rarely do you have to cut back the angel's trumpet radically - this case, however, only occurs in really serious mite or fungal infestation and you should only take this emergency measure when all the plant-conserving resources and manipulations do not help. The radical cutback can then save the angelic trumpet, but it also weakens it enormously.
