Yews are deep rooters
The yew forms a strong main root that extends into the depths. In addition, she gets a lot of small tender roots that hide, among other things, directly under the ground.
Through this rooting, an older yew can best provide itself, even if it was very dry for a long time or the soil does not contain so many nutrients.
But the root system also prevents you from easily removing a yew from the garden. Not only digging is hard work - also from small rootlets are always new saplings.
Dig up the root of the yew
If you want to transplant the yew, you need to get the roots out of the ground as completely as possible, without kinking or breaking them. For this you have to dig deep depending on the age of the yew.
