True jasmine does not tolerate temperatures below zero degrees
Real jasmine is not hardy!
Unlike Jasmine or Fragrance Jasmine, True Jasmine is not hardy. The Asian ornamental plant may like to spend the summer outdoors. In winter, however, it must be wintered in a frost-free place.
Real jasmine does not tolerate minus temperatures
Even if it is claimed again and again: real jasmine is not hardy! If gardeners tell that their jasmine easily withstands temperatures down to minus 20 degrees, it is False Jasmine, which is also called Duftjasmin.
True jasmine freezes even at temperatures around zero degrees. If you pull Genuine Jasmine in the bucket on the terrace, you must bring it to the winter quarters before the first frost.
The right wintering quarter
Real jasmine is best kept in a cool, dark place in the house. The temperatures should be no higher than 10 degrees, rather lower. Therefore, a place in the living room or flower window is not suitable for hibernation.
A wintering in the cellar is possible without any problems. True jasmine is summer green and loses all leaves in winter anyway.
Real jasmine is poisonous. Therefore, look for a place that children and pets can not reach.
So overwinter Real Jasmine in the house
Although true jasmine needs little care during the winter, you should not neglect it completely:
Pour the real jasmine so that the root ball does not dry out completely. If the upper layer of soil is dry, it is time to give some soft water.
Slowly get used to the light after wintering
Starting at the end of April, you start slowly awakening the true jasmine from hibernation.
Brighten him by the hour. After the ice saint, the bucket is allowed all day again on the terrace.
Cut the genuine jasmine beforehand and, if necessary, pot it into a larger planter.
Tips
There is one single genus of genuine jasmine that is hardy. It is the yellow-flowering species Jasmine nudiflorum. It is the only true jasmine variety that you can keep outdoors year-round.
