Greening shady locations in the garden is difficult, because most plants need lots of light. One exception is the large male or Ysander (Pachysandra terminalis), which prefers shady locations. He forms thick carpets after a short time.
Dickmännchen for shady locations
Dickmännchen not only likes shade, the perennials can not tolerate too sunny locations. It is therefore the ideal planting for bare spots under trees or in dark garden corners. However, the perennial is poisonous and is not suitable for gardens with small children and pets.
As soon as Dickmännchen has properly grown, the perennial spreads over foothills and becomes so dense that weeds have no chance.
Even the Laubharken can save you, because the leaves are already disappeared after a short time under the evergreen Dickmännchen. Only if you plant the shrubs under oak or walnut trees, you should at least partially dispose of the autumn leaves.

Until the big man has grown properly and the area is completely overgrown, you should pluck weeds regularly. Later, this care measure is no longer necessary because no weeds thrive among the perennials.
Ysander cut only when the perennials become too big or light. The subterranean foothills should occasionally cut off, so that the big man does not spread too much.
You do not even need to fertilize Pachysandra terminalis, as the plant is very frugal. A single fertilization with some ripe compost in the fall is quite sufficient.
Tips
The foliage of Pachysandra terminalis is dark green or light green, depending on the species. Meanwhile, there are also varieties that are bicolor variegated. The different species can be easily planted together.
