Beech trees are among the fast-growing hedge plants. In the first years, the growth is not quite as strong, because the trees have to settle first. After that, they add a whole lot of height and width each year.
The annual growth of a beech hedge
In the first years the beeches in the beech hedge are dealing with getting used to the new location. Growth is slower during this time.
By the age of ten, the beech hedge grows about 30 centimeters in height and width each year.
When beeches reach a flowering age at about 30 years of age, growth is 50 centimeters per year.
Tips
If you just let your beech hedge grow, it can easily grow to more than ten feet tall. It is therefore advisable to cut back the hedge regularly at least once a year. It then branches better and forms a good privacy.
