Is bread allowed on the compost?
Almost all household garbage and kitchen waste can be disposed of on the compost. Not only does this save money for garbage collection, it can also be used to recover valuable fertilizer from the compost. One of the things that you can confidently compost is bread.
Bread is allowed on the compost
Old bread leftovers which you can not eat or use in any other way, you can safely bring to the compost. Additives such as sugar liqueur are only present in such quantities in bread according to the Food Law that they have no harmful effects.
However, the same applies to bread as to all compost materials: Large quantities should be mixed well with other green waste, so that the compost fertilizer that arises later is not too one-sided.
However, be careful with sweet pastries containing chocolate, marzipan or large quantities of sugar. These substances particularly attract rats and mice. Such remnants should be better disposed of in a protected compost bin.
Does the yeast kill the compost?
Bread that you put on the compost will first mold. It is produced by the yeast bacteria, which are in sourdough. That is no cause for concern. Without the mold spores, the bread would not decompose.
When composting is complete, the fungal spores have disappeared as they can no longer find food.

Crush bread before composting
For the bread to rot faster, chop it before composting. Do not give too much bread at a time on the compost.
If the bread is on top of the compost, it will be picked up by birds. Mice also like to get worked up.
To prevent this, the leftover bread mixes with other waste such as coffee grounds, grass clippings or whatever else is required. Sprinkle with a layer of other compost materials or lightly bury the bread.
Tips
Ash can also be composted if it is made from untreated woods. Lacquered, glued or stained wood should not be burned anyway.
