Wild blackberries and cultivars
Basically, one distinguishes between the bred cultivated varieties of wild blackberry species, which grow without the help of man on slopes, roadsides and industrial dumps. The local blackberry species differ but little overall in their respective maturation period. This usually begins according to the spring weather in July and often extends into October. However, prolonged periods of damp weather can interrupt the harvesting pleasure in some years, because they encourage mold growth of the fruits directly on the bush.

Blackberries are a special feature of garden fruit because they can be harvested continuously over a relatively long period of time. This is because the fruits are not all formed at the same time after flowering, but in the respective groupings on the tendrils always get a few days offset to maturity. This is outweighed by the fact that blackberries can only be kept for a very short time in the fridge after harvesting. Since blackberries do not ripen after picking, they should only be picked off if they are already peeling off with gentle pressure. If this is not the case, it may still be a taste very sour specimen.
