The Prunus cerasifera belongs to the rose family. As shrub or tree, the ornamental wood presents itself in different sizes. Depending on the taste, tall trees or shrubs provide an excellent eye-catcher from early spring.
Large selection
In the specialist trade you will find shrubby specimens as well as semi and tall trunks. The blood plum reaches a maximum height of 15 meters in the wild. In the local allotment garden or in the municipal park, bushes of between 3 and 4 meters in height are to be discovered. Trees, on the other hand, can reach up to 8 meters at favorable locations. Gardeners plant them as individual specimens or in groups.
Variants:
As a special, weak growth, only the Prunus x cistena applies. The dwarf shrub inspires as a small plant with lush flowering and glossy, dark red leaves. In contrast, the Prunus cerasifera Nigra thrives as a tree with a trunk height between 150 and 250 centimeters.

Important prerequisites for sustainable growth
In order for the easy-care blood plum to develop magnificently, it needs the right location. This should be sunny to partially shaded. In addition, a moist soil works well. Waterlogging is always to be avoided.
Ground cover or perennials are ideal neighbors for this purpose. Prefer summer blooms. So the Blutpflaume delights in early spring with delicate flowering. Then the red-leaved leaves dress combines wonderfully with bright summer flowers.

With a targeted cut, gardeners bring their blood plums to a desired size. Shortly after flowering is the best time.
