Flowers bring color to the terrace
Make the most of the space in front of the terrace - create a flowerbed
Almost every home now has a terrace that often connects directly to the living room and extends it practically into the garden. De facto, this is living space that has been laid outside, and is visually meaningfully integrated into the garden. To avoid an abrupt transition from patio to garden, you can surround the seating area with one or more flowerbeds. The design options are extremely diverse.
Frame terrace with flowerbed
For example, the terrace can be framed with a ground-level flower bed that does not necessarily have to be rectangular. Beds in L- or even U-shape offer themselves at this point. If you like it more playful and romantic, choose a curved, semicircular or triangular bed form, of which several can be placed side by side. With regard to the planting, the location and soil factors decide which perennials come into the bed. Other decorative elements such as boulders, pebbles, gravel etc. can also be visually appealing integrated into the flowerbed.
Use flowerbed as a privacy screen
You can also use the flowerbed as a screen instead of a hedge. This works if you plant raised beds - made of wood, for example, or made of stone - densely planted with tall perennials. These should be about 120 to 140 centimeters high, which together with the average raised bed height of about 80 centimeters gives a beautiful, flowering and easy to maintain hedge. Very well suited for this purpose are, for example, the perennial sunflower (Helianthus decapetalus), the bushy willowy purpurdost (Eupatorium), the imposing giant scalehead (Cephalaria gigantea) and, planted in between, species such as yarrow (Achillea), delphinium (Delphinium) , Phlox, Cranesbill (Geranium) or Indian (Monarda).
Flowerbed on the terrace
The flowerbed can not only be placed in front of the terrace, but also on the terrace. Again, there are many beautiful ideas, starting from a pot flowerbed from many individual plant pots, a raised table, large buckets, a planted wheelbarrow or a zinc bath. However, you can also integrate the bed directly into the decking, which works especially well on tiled (eg with wooden tiles) surfaces. All you have to do is remove or remove a few tiles, and instead take in and plant flat planters.
Tips
In order to keep the perennial bed easy to care for, you can cover the floor with bark mulch or with pebbles.
