They belong to the family Steinbrechgewächse, grow easily, spread over the years without any help and are also easy to multiply by hand. But are these properties really beneficial or is the Bergenia poisonous?
Non-toxic - carefree handling
The Bergenie is not poisonous unlike many other evergreen plants. This applies both to humans and to animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits and birds.
You can plant the Bergenie without hesitation at any location of your garden. Also in the care you need not be squeamish. When cutting, you do not need gloves as protection against toxic substances and the clippings can land quietly on the compost.
Tips
You can use the leaves of the Bergenie, for example, for bouquets. In floristry, they are often used because of their beautiful heart shape.
