How do I make a bed surround only in concrete?
If you want to make your bed surround entirely in concrete, then consider whether the edging should be ground level or raised. For a single-storey enclosure, lift a ditch along the edge of your bed in the desired length and width. Put roughly five centimeters of coarse sand or fine gravel into the trench, then pour in the cast concrete.
In a raised bed enclosure you are basically the same. However, you must make a formwork before pouring the concrete. It should be slightly higher than the desired bed enclosure and can be well built from old boards. After drying the concrete, remove these boards and fill the gap between the bed and the border with earth.
How do I embed a bed enclosure?
It is not absolutely necessary to embed bedding frames, but it can improve the durability. If you want to fix a wooden bed frame or stones with concrete, then you also dig out a ditch, put in sand or gravel and then the concrete. In these you put the stones (for example paving stones or granite stones) or woods of your choice. For that the concrete must be still damp. After drying your frame is stable and resilient.
