Direct sowing is not recommended

Pour the bed with a fine shower, so that the tender seeds do not immediately swim away. A dense network protects the sowing from pecking birds and voracious pests.
Tips & Tricks
In any substrate life-threatening fungal spores or insect eggs can lurk. For sensitive basil seeds that would be fatal. Disinfecting the soil is therefore strongly recommended. Put the soil in a fireproof bowl and place it in the oven for 30 minutes at 150 degrees Celsius or in the microwave for 10 minutes at 800 watts.
