The most popular bamboo species and varieties
The bamboo is one of the few, evergreen and partially hardy plants in our latitudes. Even bamboo growers are not only keen on height, compact growth, leaves and color, but also on robust and hardy properties.
At present, about 150 species are sold throughout Europe in the garden trade. And every year new ones are added. A true treasure trove for bamboo friends to experiment. But due to climatic conditions only 20 are eligible for German gardens.
Why bamboo species and bamboo are among the grasses
In order to arrange the plant variety, botanists divided the plants into the following example of the bamboo genus Pyllostachys:

Tips & Tricks
Eyes on the bamboo purchase! Watch out for the plant variety mark. These plants come from a seedling propagated by division. In plants with the name New Generation, the origin is unknown. They come from different seedlings. Do not buy plants that have been propagated in the laboratory (Meristem), such as Bamboo Select!
