How is the flamingo flower cut back correctly?
With its attractive foliage, the deep-colored flower sheaths and the beautifully shaped pistons, the flamingo flower is one of the evergreens on the windowsill. With good care and in a location that suits the plant, the anthurium develops magnificently. Sometimes even so good that it becomes too big for the windowsill. Can you just cut them back then?

Flamingo flowers grow expansively bushy and should therefore not be cut back. Only dead and brown discolored inflorescences and yellowed leaves are taken out.
Long, sparse waking leaves
Sometimes the anthurium does not grow as desired dense and green, but forms only a few, very long and unstable leaves. Please do not just cut it back, as it is based on a care mistake.
Although the anthurium does not like direct sunlight, it still needs a lot of light. If it shows the above growth form, it is too dark. Place the plant in a bright, secluded place on the windowsill and be patient. As a rule, the flamingo flower sprouts new leaves and the sparse appearance fuses.
But what to do if the plant has grown too big?
In this case, instead of a radical pruning the division of the plant is recommended. If possible, you should wait until spring with this care measure.
Now you can put the shrunken ornamental plants in individual pots. Since the root ball does not grow very extensively, as in the case of many spotted plants, the planters should not be chosen too large. Also important is a good drainage, as the flamingo flower is very sensitive to waterlogging. Cover it with a potsherd so that the earth is not rinsed out.
Orchids or a mixture of compost, peat and sand have proven to be the substrate. If you would like to use commercially available potting soil, you must use styrofoam balls or expanded clay.
Tips
Anthuriums are poisonous plants and can irritate the skin. Wear gloves during all work on the plant.
