The anthurium - its botanical name and its origin
One of the most attractive flowering plants that has enjoyed consistent popularity for many years is anthurium. A brightly colored hull leaf from which the pistil rises proudly makes this plant so attractive. Properly nurtured, it blooms almost all year round and is also effective in times when hardly any other houseplant flowers, such as an elegant splash of color.
The genus name
It is composed of two words from the Greek:
results in "tail flower", which refers to the attractively protruding from the hull leaf sprouts.
But why flamingo flower?
If you look closely at the blossom of an anthurium, this name is almost self-explanatory. The color and shape of this attractive ornamental plant is reminiscent of the tropical birds with a little imagination. The bract acts like a bird's body, from which rises elegantly the long neck.

Common to all arum plants is the bract, from which the flower protrudes like a rod. This plant family owes its name to the older brother of Moses, whose name was Aron. He was given the office of high priest by God. The care of the anthurium is relatively simple. It prefers a bright and warm location, but it can not tolerate bright sunshine. Keep the substrate evenly moist without over-pouring. On stamens the flamingo flower reacts quite sensitively, root rot is often the result. Since the anthurium is slightly toxic, you should wear gloves when working on the plant.
