Catch the tropical sweetness of the pineapple when drying

Delicious pineapple is available in the supermarket year round. Often there are very good deals, where you should stock up on pineapple. Everything that is not eaten in a short time, can be dried with little effort itself and preserved over months.

Ways to dry pineapple

For self-dried pineapple, you can be sure that no preservatives, artificial flavors or other chemicals are included. Buy pineapples and get them ready at home. If it smells sweet, the ideal period of maturation for drying is reached. With a few simple steps, you can now prepare the fruit for the drying process. You can choose between two methods on how to dry your pineapple:

Dry pineapple in the oven

With little effort prepare your pineapple for the drying process in the oven. However, you should plan for a few hours for drying.

Cut off the upper green and the hard bottom of the fruit. Place the pineapple on a chopping board and cut the peel off. Remove the remaining "eyes" and any brown spots. Now cut the pineapple into thin rings. The thinner the rings, the better they will dry. Use a sharp knife to remove the hard core in the center of the rings. If desired, the pineapple rings can now also be cut into bite-sized pieces. Preheat the oven between 60 and 70 degrees. Prepare the baking sheets with baking paper. Spread the pineapple on the plates and put them in the oven.

Now it has to be patient, because the drying process takes between 24 and 36 hours. In between, try a piece to check the consistency. Dried pineapple are slightly tough and slightly sticky. They spend several months in a cool and dry place.

The preparation of the fruit happens in the same way as when drying in the oven. Make sure that the pieces or slices are as thin as possible, about 0.6 cm. Preheat the Dehydrator to about 57 degrees. Spread the fruit on the plate and let it dry for 35 hours.
