Cyclamen have rest period in summer
Cyclamen attract a lot of attention during their flowering. Then they pass on the scepter to other perennials. That's the case in the summer. But what do the cyclamen in the summer, while other perennials bloom?
Regenerate outside
Summer time means regeneration time for cyclamen. For 8 weeks it should be spared and be allowed to regenerate outside. Cyclamen that were in the pot during their flowering should come out in the summer.
Reduce fertilizer and watering
In the rest period, the cyclamen should be watered sparingly and not fertilized. The earth should not dry out. For precaution it is advisable to mulch the root area of the cyclamen.
Already from the end of the flowering period, the water supply is slowly throttled. This is recommended for the leaves to dry up. Who does not restrict the casting and fertilizing and thus prevents a rest period, must expect that his cyclamen has a lower life expectancy.
Until June you should not expect the cyclamen too much. From the end of June / beginning of July may again be subtly fertilized. In the late summer (towards the end of September) you can have the cyclamen moved back into the house.
Cyclamen like neither heat nor drought
For the summer to work: Put your cyclamen in the garden in a shady place. Well suited are locations under bushes or shady trees. There, these heat-sensitive perennials are spared from summer heat and drought.

But there is one exception: the summer cyclamen. As a rule, their flowering starts in August and lasts until September. Such specimens should always be placed as cold as possible or planted. Otherwise, they do not bloom long.
Tips & Tricks
By autumn, the first flower buds should have formed in cyclamen. If this is not the case, it may be that the cyclamen has not survived the summer and has been drought, for example.
