Aloe vera is native to the warm and arid regions of the world. She loves light and warmth and can save water in her thick leaves. In our latitudes, the plant can only stand outdoors in summer.
Most aloe species grow in the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Central America and Asia. Some Mediterranean regions and the Canary Islands, where average temperatures of about 20-25 ° Celsius prevail throughout the year, provide optimal growth conditions for heat-loving plants. Main growing areas are South and Central America, Africa and Spain.
In this country, aloe vera (also called real aloe or aloe barbadensis Miller) is cultivated as a houseplant for the sunny location. Aloe vera thrives on south-facing windows, where sensitive plants can be damaged. It stores like all succulents in their thick leaves water and can therefore survive longer time without watering.

Summer stay in the open air
From around the beginning of June, Aloe vera can move into the garden or onto the balcony. Even the plants that do not really thrive, the stay outdoors can do well. Provided you have a warm and sunny place. Casting is about every third day. A weekly fertilizer is recommended.
Hibernate in the house
In the course of September, you should bring your aloe vera back into the house. There she can be a little cooler in winter. In cool conditions, however, the casting should be reduced and the fertilization should be stopped. In greenhouses and protected locations, where temperatures do not fall below 10 ° C even in winter, the plants have optimal conditions for the formation of new flowers.
