The wild forest blueberries in Europe are relatively different in taste and color from the cultivated blueberries, which were bred from American blueberry species and produce larger fruits.

Forest blueberries can usually be collected directly in the forest from about the end of June to the end of August. Depending on the weather conditions in spring and early summer, this period may also be delayed by about one to two weeks. Since blueberries do not ripen, you should pick them only with a dark blue color. Due to their limited shelf life, you should not process forest bilberries intended for fresh consumption as quickly as possible:
