Not every garden lover wants to hide behind high stone walls to enjoy some privacy in their own garden. With a screen hedge of flowering shrubs not only can curious glances be largely shielded, but also hiding and nesting possibilities for birds and useful insects.
Considerations before planting a bush hedge
You should be aware before planting a shrub hedge that this type of privacy shield usually does not provide 100% privacy, especially between fall and spring. Although most of the native shrubs inspire us between spring and autumn with colorful foliage and a wealth of flowers, in winter, the bare branches, however, only partially shield prying eyes from outside the property boundary. An advantage of flowering shrubs for privacy is the relatively rapid and vigorous growth of most shrubs used for this purpose. If young plants with several shoots and a size of 50 to 100 cm are used, then these can grow within two or three years to a natural privacy of sufficient height. Do not be afraid to prune the shrubs in the first year. If these have already grown well, the plants make up for a stimulating pruning in the spring with new shoots and a stronger branching.
