Sternmoos in the garden: choose the right location
The star moss (Sagina subulata) is botanically seen not a moss, but a carnation plant. The name may well have originated as a reference to the squat growth and the shadow tolerance of these plants.

The star moss is often used as a lawn substitute on areas with little access, if due to shady conditions only a lack of growth of the blades of grass and mosses occurs. However, the star moss also rewards for planting in sunny locations by a more vigorous growth, if it is sufficiently poured in dry phases. Since waterlogging is poorly tolerated and the roots of the moss are rather short, moist locations with loamy soil can be prepared by the application of sandy plant substrate for the sowing of star moss.
