Chives are full of flies - What to do?
Especially in bought chives, after a short time many small, black flies romp about. In most cases they are so-called sciarid mosquitoes, which spread very quickly. Fortunately, they are also pretty easy to fight.
What are sciarid mosquitoes?
Mourning gnats are black, very small flies. The insects lay their eggs in the substrate of potted plants, where the larvae feed mainly from the roots. Without countermeasures, the animals reproduce very quickly, and they endanger the health of your plants - not to mention that they are quite annoying. After all, who likes to fly dozens or even hundreds of mosquitoes in his kitchen? Therefore, you should act as soon as possible after you have noticed the infestation.
Fighting Mourning Gnats
Most of the time these little beasts can be handled quite well with biological home remedies - fortunately, because chemistry is not appropriate for eating certain culinary herbs such as chives. And so you get rid of the flies on the chives again:
Incidentally, an infestation with black-headed mosquitoes is always an indication that the plant is kept too moist - the animals feel particularly comfortable in a warm and humid environment.
Tips & Tricks
