Whether as a widely shining, yellow ornament for the home garden or as a medicinal plant in the herb bed: cowslips are popular garden shrubs. All types of spring messengers are easy to plant and do not need too much care. The reproduction also succeeds very easily by self-collected or commercially obtained seeds. However, neither the plants themselves nor their constituents, including seeds, should be collected in wild populations. Cowslips are protected in Germany and many other countries.
Cowslips are cold germs
First of all, cowslips are pronounced cold germs and are best driven at temperatures of around 10 to 15 ° C, although stratification should be done beforehand. If you want to multiply cowslip from self-collected seeds, you should at best sow them right after the harvest. Unfortunately, the seeds do not remain germinable for long and can not be stored for too long. Tips
Like all primrose plants, the cowslip flowers also tend to hybridize and mix quickly with other primula species. The result can be exciting and decorative, but also look rather oblique. So if you do not want to breed hybrids, but "pure" cowslips, you should keep a safe distance between different primula species.
