While a common hornbeam reaches a height of 20 or occasionally 25 meters in the adult state, column hornbeams remain slightly smaller. As they do not get too big, they are great for smaller gardens.

Hornbeams as indigenous plants are very valuable from an ecological point of view. They give food to many insects and are often adopted by birds as a breeding ground.
