Rosemary has white spots - What is behind it?
Rosemary is a very aromatic and healthy herb - not only do we appreciate humans, but also a whole range of pests. White dots or spots on the rosemary leaves can have very different causes.

Light spots on the upper side of the leaves, usually yellowish-white to yellow, usually come from leafy cicadas, which are usually no larger than two millimeters at most and winged. The animals are very agile and not only hopping on the plant, but almost everywhere. Leaf cicadas absorb the cell sap of the infected plants, which also causes the bright spots - these are simply the puncture sites. Infested plants should be repotted as soon as possible.

In turn, spider mites occur towards the end of winter. They love dry and warm air and preferably colonize already weakened plants. A spider mite infestation is initially recognizable by small, likewise yellowish-white spots. Later, however, the leaves turn gray, then brown, and eventually fall off. In addition, the spider mite - hence its name - has fine white spines, especially in the leaf axils. Here is her favorite place to stay and here she also lays her eggs. The spider mite likes to enjoy the sap. Spider mite infested plants should be vigorously brewed under the shower and also washed off with a soft soap solution.
mildew
Mildew is not a pest but is caused by a fungus. Rosemary is mainly attacked by powdery mildew, which occurs mainly on warm and dry days. You will recognize a powdery mildew infestation on the white, powdery coating, especially on the tops of the leaves - the plant literally looks like it is dusted with flour. The first step to combat is always the generous removal of infested plant parts, as the fungus spreads very quickly. Furthermore, you should spray the plant with a milk-water mixture or with garlic and repeat the treatment for several days in a row.
Tips & Tricks
Many pests love dry air, which is why you can often prevent infestation by increasing humidity. For this, spray your rosemary regularly in summer or shower off the plant.
