How long does the lawn sprinkler have to run?
To get a dense, green lawn, the grass plants need enough water. If it does not rain, the lawn sprinkler must be set in time. But how long does it have to run so that the lawn is sufficiently watered?
Do not water the lawn too much or too little
To properly water the lawn requires a bit of tact. If the grass plants get too little water, the grass turns brown and dries up. Too much wetness also harms. The lawn begins to rot and moss formation and the growth of mushrooms are favored.
When you start the lawn sprinkler, you should know how long it must run to ensure that the lawn is sufficiently but not too strong.
The water should have moistened the floor after a few hours at least 15 inches deep.
Small trick to measure the required runtime of the sprinkler
Turn on the lawn sprinkler for a quarter of an hour as a test. After a few hours you measure how deep the water has penetrated.
You can find this out by pricking the spade out of the lawn and measuring it.
For example, if the water is eight inches deep, you'll need to run the lawn sprinkler for about half an hour and then turn it off.
Saving water through proper adjustment of the lawn sprinkler
Whether the lawn needs to be blown, you recognize the slightly bluish discoloration of the grass. In addition, kicks can be seen longer on a dry lawn.
Do not blow up the lawn during the day. The sun and wind evaporate too much water and increase water consumption. Especially in the early morning hours it is very calm.
Do not switch on the sprinkler daily, but only if necessary. Make sure that the irrigation water penetrates deep enough into the ground. Then, depending on the soil, you only need to water every fourth day or once a week.
Tips & Tricks
Set your lawn sprinkler so that it actually irrigates only the lawn and not the walkways or even the street. This can reduce the runtime of the sprinkler while reducing water consumption.
