Water the lawn properly after sowing
A lush green, healthy lawn is the pride of its owner. In order to make the green area really lush green, healthy and hard-wearing as desired, a lot of care is necessary. Especially in the germination phase after spreading the grass seed, problems can occur if the seeds do not get enough moisture. Regular watering is immensely important.
Lawn seeds need a lot of moisture
So that the lawn is sufficiently supplied with water and germinates evenly, you should prepare the soil thoroughly, supply it with a phosphorus-containing fertilizer and, above all, deeply moisten it. Then the seeds are spread and carefully distributed with a garden rake. The moisture should reach about four to five centimeters deep, which you can easily check with the help of a finger test. Until the first cut, the soil should remain evenly moist (but not wet!) So that it must be watered several times a day during dry periods. On the other hand, if the soil is too dry, the seeds die off and are then no longer germinable - the area would then have to be sown again.
To properly water lawn seeds after sowing
Even if the seeds are successfully germinated and the stalks are already sticking out of the ground, you still need to water the lawn every day - unless it rains accordingly. You do not change this rhythm until once or twice a week, when the stalks have grown about ten centimeters high and have been mown the first time. The reason for this is the rooting: At the beginning of turf development, the young plants are still dependent on an immediate water supply, since the roots are not deep enough. From the first mowing, however, you must begin to "educate" your lawn. To do this, you gradually go over to a more rare but penetrating pouring interval. In this way, the roots are forced to penetrate deeper into the earth and not just to lie just below the surface.
Tips
If possible, grass should always be laid out in the fall, when the soil is still warm and the autumnal rainfall provides the necessary moisture. In the spring, on the other hand, it is either too cold or too dry, so you have to make more efforts for successful lawn farming.
