Just leave the lawn after mowing

It is often read in garden counselors that the grass clippings must be necessarily abgeharkt. Otherwise, the lawn would not get enough air and moss set. That's only partially true. If you do it right, lying has even advantages.

Requirements for leaving the lawn

Leave lawncut - conditions

Grass clippings are valuable biomass that you can use well in the garden. The cut blades of grass decompose and thereby release nutrients that benefit other plants - even the lawn itself. In summers with too little rainfall, they also provide protection against dehydration of the soil.

In order for the grass to be left lying, you must make sure that the stalks are not too long. Otherwise they take too long to rot. There is a risk that the grass clippings clump together, rot and thus prevent air and sun on the lawn.

The lawn needs to be mown so often that the cut blades of grass are no more than two centimeters long. When using a mulching mower, you do not need to cut the turf so often. The mower chops the stems equally small, so that they are barely visible on the lawn.

Mow in dry weather

Mow only when the weather is dry, so that the grass clippings are nice and dry. Leave the lawnmower catcher basket away so that the grass clippings spread nicely evenly over the lawn.

If the cut is very humid or the grass is generally too wet, it is better to catch the grass clippings in the basket or to rake off and dispose of them later. This is also true when the lawn is heavily interspersed with flowering weeds. The disposal can be done as a mulch material under trees and shrubs, on the compost heap or on the bio bin of urban garbage disposal.

Tips & Tricks

The easiest way to mow the lawn so that the cut can be left is to purchase a lawn robot. Depending on the setting, the robot mows the green area so frequently that the cut stems are only a few millimeters long.
