The papaya blossom
Although papaya plants have a tree-like habit, botanically they are neither called a shrub nor a tree. The plant of the family Melon family (Caricaceae) probably originates from Mexico and forms first flowers and fruits already one year after sowing.
Special features of the papaya blossom
In the different types of papaya, the papaya flowers sometimes look quite different. So they can have different shades of cream color from bright white to yellows. The mainly cultivated species Carica papaya bears small flowers with star-shaped petal arrangement, which remind in their form of a spinning pinwheel. Common to all papaya species is the arrangement of the flowers on the "stem" of the plant, in each case on the leaf scars of already discarded leaves.
From papaya blossoms to fruits
If you let matured papayas home sufficiently, so you can breed from the seeds of their own and later sporadically planted in a pot. After only about 10 to 14 months, these young plants can bear first flowers and thus also fruits. Due to lack of winter hardiness in this country, the following crops are possible:

There are both monoecious and dioecious papaya species. In the monoecious species is partially a self-pollination of wind and insects possible in dioecious specimens is required for fertilization in each case a female and a male plant.
