Are palm trees poisonous to cats?
As a lover of one or more velvet paws, they know it for sure: The cat grass, which has been bought especially for the animals, remains unnoticed, instead the cat prefers to nibble on the houseplants. Unfortunately, this can be quite dangerous for the purring roommates, because not everything that grows in our apartments is not poisonous. But are the attractive palm trees among those plants that are toxic to pets?
Most palms are non-toxic
Almost all "real" palm species are harmless for cats or are classified as "presumably non-toxic", as no serious poisoning cases are known. Even though the grass-like fronds, such as the Kentia palm or the Areca palm, are very much prized by the velvet paws, there is no danger to the cat from these plants.
Special case mountain palm
The extremely attractive mountain palm with its feathered fronds is often classified as harmless, but cat lovers should refrain from using this room decoration. Although not the leaves, but rather the very rare yellow flowers are poisonous. However, to avoid risk, do not place these plants within reach of the cat.
