Tips & tricks for growing an orange tree
Orange trees can be grown both over (fresh) seed kernels, over cuttings as well as by refining themselves. With our instructions, you can also attract a beautiful orange tree.
Sow orange kernels
Seed kernels for sowing are easily obtained from commercial, fresh and ripe oranges. However, the kernels are still germinable at the latest one week after removal from the fruit, so it is best to put them immediately in sandy potting soil. Press the cores lightly into the substrate and cover them with a 1 to 1 cm thick layer of earth. At temperatures between 20 and 30 ° C as well as sufficient light and brightness, the seeds germinate within two to four weeks.
Keep seeds germinatable longer
Seed germination can be maintained in the refrigerator for up to one year if slightly moist. However, a preventative treatment against mold is very helpful, in addition, such seeded seeds do not promise as good a success as fresh ones.
Pull cuttings
The propagation of cuttings usually works very well with oranges, but plants grown from cuttings are usually more sensitive to roots than grafted ones. Cuttings are very sensitive to cold and moisture (root rot). For this reason, it is recommended to refine cuttings at the age of about one year on a more robust surface. Especially the bitter orange and the often hardy bitter lemon have proven to be suitable. Bitter lemons are often also available under the name "Trifoliate Orange" (Citrus trifoliata).

Bitter lemons are not as fast-growing as oranges, but they also have other properties that are good for the temperate climate:
