Store nectarines - so keep the fruits fresh

The nectarine, a truly delicious mutant of the peach, brings pure enjoyment - as long as it is still fresh, so firm, bright and fragrant. It has been one of the most popular types of fruit for years. Unfortunately, it tends to spoil quickly. In order to consume nectarines in the prime of their maturity, proper storage is crucial. We will explain how to optimally store the magnificent fruits.

Fast perishable fruit

Nectarines are among those types of fruit that rot very quickly - especially when it comes to fruits of very high quality. What sounds paradoxical at first is actually only logical: High-quality organic nectarines are untreated, so they come with no preservatives. As a result, they quickly become bad, but taste better. If you want to enjoy the full aroma, you have to keep your nectarines on the one hand adequately and the other on time to eat.

So you can store nectarines

There are several ways to store your nectarines:

Store nectarines at room temperature

Leave the fruits in the kitchen (for example in the fruit bowl), they only stay fresh for a few days. In this case, it is advisable to quickly consume the nectarines.

Store nectarines in a cool, dark and dry place

If you have a pantry, basement or attic, store the fruit in an air-permeable container (basket or bowl with holes). In such a cool, dark and dry place, nectarines often last one to two weeks.

Keep nectarines in the fridge

You can expect a similar shelf life if you place the nectarines in the fruit and vegetable compartment of your refrigerator. However, the intense aroma can suffer here.

Freeze nectarines and store in the freezer

To preserve nectarines for several months, simply freeze the fruits. To do this you must first wash it thoroughly and dry it carefully, then corer it out and cut it into pieces. Finally, pour it into freezer bags in portions and seal them airtight. The nectarine packages come into the freezer, where they stay fresh for at least four to six months.

General tips for storing nectarines

Buy or harvest nectarines always in fresh, intact condition. You recognize this by a firm skin, which does not yield to gentle pressure.

Be careful not to stack your nectarines tightly. They should not hit each other (otherwise there are bruises that quickly mold).

Even if the cool storage extends the shelf life: eat the fruits soon - only so you experience the aroma of the fruit in all its intensity.
