Can you dry mangoes?
You can just as well dry mangoes yourself as local fruits do. Use fully ripened fruits without pressure or fouling and ensure a quick and thorough drying so that your dry mangoes do not start to mold.
Dry mangos yourself
Peel your mango and cut the fruit in not too big pieces. The larger the mango pieces are, the longer the drying time and the greater the danger that too much residual moisture will remain and the dry mangoes begin to mold. Dry the mango pieces in the warm dry air, in the attic, in a dehydrator or in the oven.
For drying in the attic or in the air, you can pull the mango pieces onto a string and dry them hanging. The fruit pieces must not touch, otherwise they will not dry evenly and there is a risk of mold. A slight breeze is beneficial because the drying process must not take too long. Look for a dry warm place.
If you want to dry the mango pieces in the oven, place the pieces on a grill or baking tray and set the oven to 70 ° C. Do not completely close the oven door, but leave an opening through which the moisture can escape. Wrap the completely dried and cooled mango pieces airtight and store them dark and cool.
