Pull the lily of the valley in the pot
Lily-of-the-valley lovers can not wait until the spring flower shows its pretty bells and fills the air with its intense scent.But did you know that you can prefer lilies of the valley in the house? Then the flower will bloom in winter.
So you prefer lilies of the valley
Dig the rhizome out of the garden in November. You are not allowed to remove rhizomes from the forest, nature conservation forbids.
The substrate is garden soil, which is mixed with potting soil from the hardware store and some sand.
The pot should have a diameter of twelve centimeters and a vent hole at the bottom, so that no waterlogging can form.
Keep moist until flowering
The rhizome is covered in the pot with little soil. The eyes have to protrude very easily from the ground.
Keep the soil well moist, but avoid waterlogging, as the rhizome will then rot. Place the pot on a windowsill where it is neither too cold nor too warm. Ideal are 20 degrees.
It takes a few weeks for the flowers to appear first, followed by two to three weeks.
Plant after flowering or cool
The flower can be extended if you do not put the pot in the warm living room. If the lily of the valley has faded, you can plant the rhizome back into the garden.
If you would like to continue cultivating the lily of the valley in the tub, place it after flowering in a cool, shady spot. Do not forget to water it occasionally so the earth does not dry out.
In November you bring the pot back into the house to drive the lily of the valley again.
Tips
Lilies of the valley in the garden are absolutely hardy and need no special protection. If you pull lilies of the valley in the tub or pot on the terrace, winter protection is necessary, because the earth must not be completely frozen. Over-winter the plant in the cellar or wrap the pot with bubble wrap.
