Maintain the loganberry in the garden properly
Loganberries are a chance product. It originated from a cross between bromine and raspberries. Unlike these two fruit bushes, the loganberry hardly forms foothills. How to properly care for the shrub to harvest the slightly sour berries.
How often do loganberries have to be poured?
The shrubs do not need a lot of water. It is enough to pour them from time to time when it is very dry. On the other hand, a slightly damp soil does not harm as long as there is no waterlogging.
Do loganberries need regular fertilizer?
On very poor soils, you can occasionally spread some ripe compost around the shrubs. Commercial berry fertilizers are not necessary.
In autumn, it is recommended to lightly put some compost or horn shavings into the ground.
How do you cut the berries properly?
Old tendrils are cut off from the ground after harvesting.
In the fall, cut out dried or sick tendrils and thin young shoots.
Do logan berries need a rank aid?
The tendrils of the loganberry grow very fast and can be up to five meters long. Tie the shoots to a climbing aid so that the fruits do not lie on the ground later.
You can also cultivate the shrubs on the trellis. The distance between the plants should then be at least two meters.
Can logan berries be transplanted?
Transplanting is easier than with raspberries or blackberries. Logan berries have virtually no foothills, making it easier to dig the whole plant out of the ground.
Which diseases affect the shrubs?
Loganberries are robust. In bad conditions, however, the shrubs can cause some diseases. Essentially they are the same as raspberries:
Cut off any infested rods completely and dispose of them with the household waste. To prevent fungal attack, shed the shrubs so the air can circulate well.
Unlike raspberries and blackberries, the fruits of loganberries rarely mold.
Are logan berries hardy?
Logan berries tolerate temperatures down to minus 18 degrees. In unprotected locations, a light winter protection is recommended.

Logan berries mature earlier than raspberries and blackberries. They can be transported well, but should be eaten as quickly as possible or processed into jam.
