Cut for the vase cut

Lilies can be confidently cut during their flowering, which is usually to be admired between the end of May and mid-June. This cut is designed to preserve the flowers for the vase. If the flowers are to last a long time in the vase, only the leaves should be removed at the stem end. Other leaves remain arrested.

Similarly, the flowers can be cut off shortly before the flowering. But not too early! When the buds are plump and thick, they are about to open. Then the time has come for a vase cut. Bear in mind, however, that many lilies in the home exude a strong scent that not everyone likes.

Cut after flowering

Furthermore, lilies should be cut after their flowering. Only use sharp and clean tools such as pruning shears or a knife for the cut. Blurred and dirty cutting tools can increase the risk of illness.

When the flowering time is over, you recognize it by the withered flowers. Cut these away! But not too much of the good: Only the inflorescences should be cut off. The stems remain on the plant.

If you want to harvest the seeds, wait until they have formed. Then you can cut off the seeds and remove the seeds for sowing. Bear in mind that the seedling of a lily costs enormous power.

Cutting in preparation for wintering

Last year, the fall should be followed by a cut following. He serves to prepare the lily for the winter time. It can be dug up and quartered after this cut.
