Lavender - Different planting distance for different types of lavender
If you think of lavender, dark purple to blue flowers usually appear in front of your inner eye. However, only a few garden lovers are aware that there are lavender in about 25 different varieties - all of which have different requirements. Although the key data (a lot of sun, a little water, permeable soil) are the same, there are differences with regard to plant spacing, for example.
Do not plant lavender too tightly
Lavender generally needs a lot of space, which is why the plants should not be set too tight. Basically, you can assume that a distance of about half of the expected stature height is optimal. Lower lavender varieties (such as Blue Dwarf, Hidecote or Munstead) need about 20 to 30 centimeters of space, while high varieties such as up to a meter high Speiklavendel between 40 to 50 centimeters needs. When planting, make sure that the individual plants do not later take the sun from each other, and that the plant should not be planted under trees or shrubs.
Tips & Tricks
Some potted plants can not be planted in large containers. However, this does not apply to lavender - the more space the plant has, the better! But also make sure to keep the distance to care-intensive plants such as roses as large as possible.
