The purchased kiwi plant
In the specialized trade one finds a large selection of Kiwi kinds. Depending on the age of the purchased plant, you can expect the first fruits around the third year. Provided you've planted at least one female and one male kiwi.
Also available are the monoecious varieties, which require no Befruchtersorte. Also popular are the easy-care Mini Kiwis, which, although smaller fruit, are more robust and yielding than their larger relatives. The shell of the small fruits is smooth and can be eaten.
The self-made kiwi plant
Who does not shy away from the effort, can pull his kiwi smoke itself from seeds or cuttings or offshoots. The cuttings are cut in the spring before expulsion; the offshoots are pulled during the growing season, preferably in spring or summer.
The seeds of a commercial kiwi fruit can be sown without problems under house conditions. It should be noted that the seeds are light germs. Constant heat and humidity, possibly with the use of a house greenhouse, ensure that the seeds germinate after about 2 weeks.
Tips & Tricks
It could take up to ten years for the self-grown kiwi plants to harvest for the first time. So if you are in a hurry with the fruits, you are better off with the young plants from the garden center.
