The pebble bed: ideal for the front yard
Green areas and flowerbeds in the front yard require a lot of care: weeds are regularly weeded, the lawn mowed and watered. A pebble bed, however, is properly laid out, extremely easy to clean and at the same time looks very attractive. In addition, the gravel is walkable and harmonizes well with paved garden parts such as the way to the house.
The ideal conditions
A pebble bed is suitable for dry front gardens as well as for rather damp areas. However, you should, as with any other bed, take into account the planning of the desired plants on the local conditions.
The total size is based on the available area. Whether you prefer clear geometric shapes or, as in the Mediterranean gravel garden, rather curved, is left to your individual taste. Tune the overall concept to the garden design and the style of the building.
The choice of gravel places
Gravel comes in different shapes, sizes and different colors; the material therefore offers a wide scope of design. Those who like it quite classic, resort to gray stones. Mixed glacier gravel goes well with an alpine pebble bed. Rose Quartz looks elegant, colorfully polished basalt teen pop.
The attachment
If you want to create a pebble bed, you must first lift the floor of the front garden about thirty centimeters deep. Remove weed plants and their roots carefully. If the excavation consists of pure topsoil, half of it is mixed with gravel and filled back into the pit. A weed fleece is then laid over the entire bed.

Insertion
Distribute the shrubs first on the bed, so you can take the attractive design again. The fleece is now cut crosswise at the intended location with a sharp knife. Use a hand shovel to dig a not too small pit. Insert the plant, press on the soil and spread out the fleece again.
The gravel of the front yard
In the last step, the gravel is distributed on the entire bed. The layer should be at least five inches thick.
Tips
Pebble beds are not just for the design of the front yard. Even in the garden they are an attractive eye-catcher, which harmonises wonderfully with green areas and shrubs.
