As with most other fruit trees, the propagation of the yoke berry is most easily achieved by cuttings or so-called sinkers. However, your patience is required, because it can take several months before the first roots form.
Multiply Jostabeeren over cuttings
Using cuttings is a common method for propagating fruit trees. To do this, select suitable young shoots in the spring, cut them off and place them either in a pot with a special cultivation soil or directly in a prepared bed. Suitable shoots are about 15 to 20 inches long and have several eyes. Slice the cutting edge at the bottom before planting. By this measure, the water absorption is facilitated. The cuttings are buried deep in the ground, the top eye needs only two inches above the ground surface to stand. Fertilization is not necessary because the nutrients can not be absorbed due to the missing roots.

Another possibility of propagation are sinkers, which remain until the formation of the roots of the mother plant and are supplied by this further. Bend suitable, longer side shoots down to the ground. The bark is cut at the point where the shoot touches the ground. Now dig a hollow and put the shoot inside. Fill the trough with soil again, but the tip of the shoot should look out of the ground. Fix the sinker with a stone, otherwise it can slip out of the trough again.

Transplant rooted cuttings
After a few weeks to months you will notice the first tender leaves on your cuttings or sinkers. Once buds and leaves form, the small plantlets have successfully planted roots and can now be planted in their designated location. This should be the case the following autumn - after about half a year. Dig out the cuttings and replant them to their destination. Already existing branches can be cut back to about four to seven eyes, so that the plant develops more shoots next spring. Lowerers can separate you from the mother plant as soon as they have leaves.

Cuttings and sinkers are extremely sensitive to cold and tolerate especially ground frost only bad. In the first two years, the young shoots were to be protected by a thick layer of brushwood.
