Plant a mixed hillside with vegetables and flowers
Raised beds are similar to raised beds due to their special structure, only they are deeper and do not need a special "box".In the first three to four years, hillside beds are more suitable for high-consumption plants, but this includes both vegetable and ornamental plants. Especially nice is a common culture of crops and flowers, which also offers many benefits for plant health.
The hillside as a pure ornamental bed
While you have to be careful in the first three years in crops not to put strong nitrate-storing plants in the hill, this point on flowers and perennials completely eliminated - they do not want to eat you in the normal case, after all. Only if you want to use herbs or medicinal plants (such as marigolds) accordingly, you should pay attention to this point and plan the planting accordingly only from the fourth year of use. Otherwise, all flowers on a hillside feel good, as long as they like sun and heat and have a high nutritional requirement. Ornamental plants for lean and / or shady locations, however, are not suitable for hillside beds.
Mixed planting on the hillside
A hillside is wonderful for a mixed planting that not only looks attractive, but also has a positive impact on plant health. The collection of certain flowers and crops often provides significant benefits, especially if you want to keep pests and diseases at bay. Garlic, for example, is an outspoken friend of roses because it keeps away aphids. However, some plant combinations are also harmful to one another, so that a mixed culture should be carefully planned and coordinated. In such a mixed planting, however, always make sure that ornamental and vegetable plants do not deprive each other of nutrients, light and water. Ideally, place the flowers around the outskirts of the hillside, as a border and as a vertex, if they are higher species.
Tips
Be sure to place the flowers on the hillside according to their height: High-growing species such as sunflowers should be seeded at the top, lower species at the sides. The bushier a flower grows, the more likely it belongs to the margins, preferably at the northern end of the bed: thus ensuring that all other plants also get enough light.
