How to operate your old tub to the raised bed
A raised bed does not necessarily have to consist of a wooden, rectangular box. Instead, there are plenty of great DIY ideas on how you can bring old materials or objects to life - for example, by turning your old bathtub into a raised bed. The necessary water drain is already present through the drain, and so the good piece can be planted directly into the garden.
Do not throw away old pans, but repurpose
Have you just rebuilt your bathroom and now have an old bathtub? You do not have to dispose of these, but you can transform them into a raised bed in a few simple steps. Freestanding bathtubs with feet can be set up easily, for all others you can build a simple scaffolding and put them so tip over. Incidentally, not only are old bathtubs suitable for high beds, but also zinc tubs or the plastic baby baths, for which your child has long since become too tall. The only important thing is that the tubs have a drain, so that excess water can drain.
Beautify bath or zinc tub
The tubs can be beautified with little effort so that they are not visible - but instead act as a kind of foil replacement in the raised bed. You can build a wooden frame around the tubs, wall the tub (for example, with a brick or natural stone wall), with a fence made of thick wooden planks or hazel branches, or a pretty wickerwork.
Fill tub properly
Much more important, however, is to fill the tub properly. As the lowest layer, you should lay a fleece, so that the plant substrate does not sludge the drain and thus this can no longer fulfill its task. On top of that comes a few centimeters of gravel as drainage material, which in turn is covered with a layer of fleece. Of course, you should use water-permeable fleece, otherwise there will be waterlogging. Only then fill in the plant substrate, depending on the planting. In a bathtub - especially a zinc bath - especially colorful flowers, bushy perennials or herbs look very pretty.
Tips
If you do not want to cover your wood sill with foil, you can instead put a pase plastic bucket (of course with water drainage to prevent waterlogging). For existing or purchased pans you can easily build paseo frames yourself, but you can also rely on finished kits from specialist retailers.
