What is the water requirement of the houseleek?

Domestic sausages come out with very little liquid for a very long time - the thick leaves serve as excellent water reservoirs, which is why the plant can feed itself. Only cultivated in planters specimens should be cast from time to time - but carefully, because on too much water and especially waterlogging Hauswurze react extremely sensitive.

Can you fertilize house shrimp? If so, when and with what?

Fertilization is basically not necessary with planted house shrimp, but you can already supply the plants with little (!) Horn shavings or compost during planting. This measure ensures a more intensive leaf coloration. Potted cultured specimens may be supplemented with blue seed or succulent fertilizer when needed - but this may rarely be the case.

Do you have to cut house sausages?

A regular pruning of the house sausages is not necessary. Only after the flower has finished can you remove the flowered rosette, as it will die off anyway.

What should you pay particular attention to when cultivating house sausages in a pot?

You can put house sausages in all kinds of planters, as long as they are always well drained. Excess water should be able to run off immediately, otherwise the plant threatens to rot or root rot. The plant substrate is mixed for this purpose with plenty of sand or lava, at the bottom of the pot is also a layer of expanded clay or a similar drainage layer. So that the obligatory drain hole does not become blocked, you can cover it with a water-permeable fleece.

Should you transplant house sausages in a pot?

A regular repotting is not necessary at Hauswurzen. Quite the contrary: like so many other thick-leafed plants, the Sempervives do not particularly appreciate such a measure.

Are houseworms attacked by diseases or pests?

House sausages are very robust. Infestation with fungi or pests is extremely rare. A poor growth, a pale leaf color or fragile shoots can usually be attributed to an inappropriate and / or too humid location.

Are Hauswurzen hardy?

As mountain plants, house shrimp are absolutely hardy and do not need additional protection in winter. On the contrary, because the plants need the winter cold for their well-being. This also applies to potted specimens that should be placed on a polystyrene or wooden pad at most. Only very wet winters can be problematic.

Tips
